CYCLEWAY EXTENSION: Greenwich to Woolwich – Starting 29th September 2025

Please note that Transport for London (TfL) is extending the Cycleway route, which starts at London Bridge and currently ends in Charlton, to Woolwich Ferry Roundabout.

This is likely to cause disruption to your journey to Gateway House and nearby areas of Woolwich during the works which are scheduled to start on Monday, 29th September 2025 and expected to last for eighteen (18) months until early 2027.

These works will affect the A206 between Anchor and Hope Lane, Woolwich Road and Woolwich Church Street – up to Woolwich Ferry roundabout. A map showing the route of the roadworks is shown below.

Road space reduction and temporary road signals will form part of these works; these will inevitably cause slow traffic along this route. The projected work times are as follows:

Monday to Friday:  8:00AM to 5:00PM
   Saturday:    9:00AM to 2:00PM
   Sunday:  No planned work

To reduce disruption, the advanced works including road resurfacing will be carried out overnight between the hours of 9:00PM to 5:00AM.

It is also likely that the traffic disruption may extend to John Wilson Street, as road users seek alternative routes to avoid the disruption along the route of the Cycleway extension.

Further information about the works is available at the following link:

Please consider the following in planning your journey to and from Gateway House during the period of the works:

  • Allow additional time for your journey.
  • Explore alternative routes that would get you to parking facilities close to Gateway House (Calderwood and Monk Street car parks – see diagram below) whilst avoiding the potential delays along the Cycleway route.
  • Using alternative means of transport such as trains.

When the works are completed, it is expected to bring positive benefits to the Royal Greenwich community including improved pedestrian crossings and public spaces for people to walk and cycle.

Trusting that the above information will help minimise any potential disruptions to your travels to and from Woolwich.

God richly bless you.
